Ready to take your wheel-throwing skills to the next level? Wheel 102 is designed for guild members who already have a foundation in throwing and are looking to refine their techniques while exploring new forms and functions.

In this highly interactive class, you’ll build confidence and improve throwing skills, while learning more advanced techniques, including:

  • Making lidded jars such as a sugar bowl or altered & lidded casserole dish

  • Forming a definite galley and making lids that fit (both wheel thrown and slab built for altered pots)

  • Altering wheel thrown pots to create new shapes or more interesting rims

  • Pulling and forming handles

  • Making spouts that pour effectively

  • Working on one or more throwing projects of your choice. For example, last year’s participants chose ‘cheater’ plates made from slabs that were formed into plates on the wheel and flower pot bookends.

Weekly demonstrations will inform your practice and you’ll have the opportunity to work on your own projects with guidance and feedback from the instructor. Participants will be expected to manage their own clay and practice between classes.

Tuition Includes:

  • 25 pounds of clay (112 or Bmix)

  • Some limited, dedicated shelf space for pots made in class

What to Bring:

  • A sketchbook (will be used regularly throughout class - no drawing experience required)

  • Pottery tools, found objects, stamps, etc.

  • An apron or towel. Note: we will practice more effective use of water so that there is less clean up required

  • Your creative spirit and ideas for what you want to make

Class Size: Limited to ensure personalized instruction.

Registration Required.
