This wheel throwing class includes instruction with Christine Hurley for new students and wheel time for those students who have previously taken a tween/teen Try the Wheel class.  Students will have the option to use all their time throwing on the wheel or adding carved decoration to pots as their final step.

***Please note that we do not have a parking lot. We have a few metered street parking spots in front of the studio. If you want to park in a space off the street that is reserved for Nicodemus Center customers, I recommend parking a block further down at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro. Our studio is on a one-way street. If you pass the studio (it will be on your left) continue roughly a block further up the street. The church is on your left.

In this beginner friendly, hands on class, participants will learn how to make and use underglaze transfer designs to create unique and colorful pots.  Participants will supply their own leather hard or bisqued fired pieces.  Jess and/or the studio will provide all other supplies, including underglaze and practice transfers from newsprint.  You will have the option to bring your own designs, make a unique design during class, or use some of Jess’s samples.

What to bring to class:  

• Bring a leather hard or bisqued piece of pottery, preferably one that is flat (ex., plate) or with straight walls.  If you have a gently curved sided mug that will also work well. 

• The studio will provide speedball underglazes.  If you prefer another brand of underglaze or specific colors, please bring those.

• If you have brushes you prefer to use for other underglaze techniques, please bring those.  The brushes at the studio are ‘good enough’, unless you plan on adding details that require a smaller brush.

• Jess will prepare some sample transfer outlines on newsprint that you can use for the project.  If you want a unique stencil, you will need to prep that in advance or bring a reference drawing to use in class. Of course, you can also wing it, which is also fun!

Cancellations:  Cancellations must be emailed or texted to Becci no later than 72 hours prior to class start time in order for tuition to be refunded.
