In this beginner friendly, hands on class, participants will learn how to make and use stencils to layer with underglaze and carving to create unique and colorful pots. Participants will supply their own leather hard or bisqued fired pieces. Jess and/or the studio will provide all other supplies, including underglaze and practice stencils from newsprint. You will have the option to use Jess’s stencils or use your own. NOTE: Carving can be added to leather hard pots during the class. For bisqued pieces, pots must be carved prior to bisque firing.
What to bring to class:
Bring a leather hard or bisqued piece of pottery, preferably one that is flat (ex., plate) or with straight walls. If you have a gently curved sided mug that will also work well.
The studio will provide speedball underglazes. If you prefer another brand of underglaze or specific colors, please bring those.
If you have brushes you prefer to use for other underglaze techniques, please bring those. The brushes at the studio are ‘good enough’, unless you plan on adding details that require a smaller brush.
Jess will prepare stencils from newsprint that you can use for the project. If you want a unique stencil, you will need to prep or purchase that in advance and bring it with you.
Cancellations: Cancellations must be emailed or texted to Becci no later than 72 hours prior to class start time in order for tuition to be refunded.
